food for thought

Friday, June 16th, 2017

it is important to me, especially after just reading, “many lives, many masters” that i approach everything with love and understanding.  so i wrote what’s below several days ago and then wanted to make sure it was coming from the right place before i published it.

I can’t stop thinking about this – maybe it’s because you’re thinking about it. Or maybe it’s because Spirit is telling me…

The betrayal you left me for.  The betrayal you thought I had done to you…is that the same type of betrayal you have been doing?

I don’t know the answer.  I don’t need to know the answer, but hope you do.

Day 114 – Oh Holy Knees!

Wind Removing Pose or Pavanamuktasana 8-10-10

Wind Removing Pose or Pavanamuktasana 8-10-10

I’m headed to Mayo next Monday and see my doc up there exactly one week from today. I’m a little nervous about the blood results as I haven’t felt as great as I did when I first came off the meds (felt like I was in high school again when I first came off of them) so I am wondering if anything is going on just ever so slightly. The reason I’m excited to go is for him to look at my knees to see if he can figure out what’s wrong with them. They weren’t happy in class this morning, that’s for sure.

Today’s teacher was Lisa. She seed more cynical than normal today – think she had a cold.

Wind Removing Pose or Pavanamuktasana 8-10-10

Today’s Bikram yoga pose is Wind Removing Pose or Pavanamuktasana and the new challenge I have for myself in this pose is that I’m trying to get the back of my neck flat on the ground. I remember when I did it in my early twenties and was in utter shock as I never thought it was possible to do and thought the teacher at the time (Angela – Bikram trained and an experienced yogi) was just talking gibberish. Of course, now I know it’s possible but that it seems impossible.

I’m playing in an Alumni Field Hockey game on Friday afternoon and am sorta dreading it. It’s funny because I thought by doing yoga all year long I’d be ready to play in it (mentally and physically), but since I haven’t accomplished what I set out to do in my physical body I find my mental one totally discouraged. If I score, I’ll forgive myself.  Dream on, little girl, dream on.

Namaste.

Never Ever Again

Oliver

I have missed yoga and have to tell you that I don’t think I will ever take a cat in again EVER.  I will pay for my vet to have them or find a vet that will take them in.  Having Oliver in my home is one of the most frustrating things.  I want so badly for him to have a good home and have turned down about three people that said they couldn’t afford to neuter him and other people that I feel like have not been a good fit.

I REALLY miss my kitties.  They are only 8 and 9 months old, so I think I’m just confusing them.  It isn’t fair to my mom or her animals to have mine over there.  So please, please, please pray that Mr. Oliver finds a home soon.  Oh and I have put up flyers, he’s on Facebook, on Craig’s List, on YouTube – where else do I put him?

I miss Yoga too – in the sense of feeling good and having a normal routine – but I cannot handle the stress of making class right now – for example, last night Oliver meowed from 2-3am – so no sleep and I cannot imagine waking up at 6am when I’ve had no sleep.

I am aware I brought this on myself, so I hope I’m not disappointing everyone.  Please pray that he finds a home soon.

Day 62 – Posting Way Late!

Oliver

Oliver

I am posting this really late, but I feel like I cannot leave you guys hanging any further.

I did go to 4:30pm yoga with Bill on Monday afternoon and the class was fine, but my knee still hurt.

I did not go yesterday (Tuesday) or today and probably will not go for the rest of the week.  I know I have totally messed up my goal in going 5 days a week in April, but I’ve decided this is something I can put on hold to alleviate the stress I am feeling right now.

I think I told you that I found a stray cat on Friday and finding him a home has completely consumed me.  He is also locked in my master bathroom until he finds a home because my vet doesn’t know if he has ringworm – and it takes over two weeks for the ringworm to show up in a petree dish – so I have to keep him in my bathroom.  As a result, he bangs on the door from 3am to 5am, and there’s just no way I am getting up at 6am after that lovely time period.

I really haven’t been this stressed out since my Rags was dying.  This cat is just so cool and deserves an awesome home.  I want to make sure that he finds the right home.

I also have some writing deadlines for my business this week, so with all the added stress, I am dropping my yoga routine as well as the writing on this blog until he finds a home – which might be tomorrow or next week.  I am sorry for neglecting you, but this is one of those pressures that I put on myself and I do not need to make myself more stressed out – as I fear that will cause other health problems I don’t need.  Hope you understand.  Namaste.

Day 58 – Tight

Bow Pose

Bow Pose - Dhanurasana 2/22/10

The weekend is not my friend.  I always struggle in Monday morning classes – more so because of my tightness than anything else.  I have debated whether or not to attend classes on the weekend, but I think I need the break too.  What I would love to have is a hot yoga room in my house.  I have always wanted that – with mirrors, etc.  I wonder how much that would cost.  I certainly wouldn’t do it in the house I am in now, as it is much too small, but some day I think it would be great to have it.  It would be like a sauna with mirrors.

Bow Pose - Dhanurasana 2/22/10

Bow Pose - Dhanurasana 2/22/10

Today’s pose is the Bow Pose or Dhanurasana.  Ever since my trip to Arkansas this one has hurt my left knee, so I am not able to get into as much as I would like.  Well, I could get deeper into it, but I need to let my knee repair a bit before going any further in it. It’s no wonder why there is a little kid doing this pose in Bikram’s Yoga book – as it does take a bit of flexibility to get into this one.

So something I have been meaning to cover in these posts is the amount of calories that you burn in hot yoga class – afterall, this is supposed to be a loss weight yoga thing for me.  I remember in January when I asked one of the instructors if they thought hot yoga was a cardio workout – they seemed annoyed by the question and said that it reminded them of “how many calories do you burn in yoga?”  She did say that she thinks it is around 600.  But, as we all know, it depends on a lot of factors, namely weight and amount of time burning the calories. My friend Google to the rescue.  Check out this awesome Australian site where you can enter your weight and the amount of time the class was.  Calories Burn Calculator.  Just did mine.  It says I burned 1025 calories in class today, holy cow.  I am not sure how accurate that is.  That means in a 90-minute class, I burn 1538.  Whoa nelly.

Class was pretty packed this morning.  I was surprised.  It was a nice Spring morning, so I figured there wouldn’t be as many folks in class.  Perhaps there were a few feeling bad about a few too many deviled eggs on Easter?  Or maybe too many Peeps.

Namaste.

Day 52 – Down Belly Down!

Friday, March 26th, 2010
Tree Pose 2/22/10

Tree Pose 2/22/10

It may seem like I am giving my belly a command, but I assure you it is more a cheer!  Today I was in the Standing Separate Leg Head to Knee Pose and noticed that the fold of fat from my belly was much less than a month ago.  So, yeah, down belly down!  In fact, maybe we will just make my belly a masculine gender, so I can say, “Down Boy!”

However, when looking at today’s photo, it looks like my boobs are the ones that are shouting or rather, doing the “down boy down!” thing.  Man, my boobs have never looked like that in yoga class – usually they are more propped up.  Oh well.

So today’s posture is the tree.  I am not a fan of this posture.  It’s a hit or miss if my standing leg starts to fall asleep in this pose.  I think it’s a matter of circulation, so I don’t know what I am doing differently to make it a hit or miss, nonetheless, it happens.

Tree Pose Side View

Tree Pose Side View 2/22/10

Also, from this side view, you can tell that:

  1. My belly is huge
  2. My ass is huge
  3. and the point of this list – that my left knee is not parallel with my right knee.  So,  in other words, it should look like I have one solid leg from the side.

This is one of these Bikram yoga poses that I am not sure I will master by the end of the year.  However, I have really been thinking about health, exercise, etc. ever since Bill and I got  back from Hot Springs Village, AR to visit his grandmother.  There are a lot of people 70+ that live down there and watching them move and try to get around, really makes me want to take care of myself, so that I don’t have a problem going down stairs or getting out of a vehicle.  I believe the flexibility and mobility in my joints that yoga offers will help me.  But that means I have to be a dedicated yoga practicer for years to come.

Tree Pose 1/8/10

Tree Pose 1/8/10

Since all my grandparents are dead, I am not around people over 60 years old (my parents’ age) that often.  So I will need reminders of this or I will soon take advantage of my body again…as I have in the past.  You gotta plan ahead, my friends.

Okay, enough on my thoughts of the future condition of my body.  I think the instructor today had the hots for the new girl in class as he never EVER helps someone in their poses and he did today.  That was crazy to me.  He always stays in his postures and does the class with you, but today, he moved from his mat to help the new girl and offered way more advice…it was just one of those women intuition things that I noticed.  It was a nice break though because usually I zone out on Fridays because I am not as confident in today’s instructor’s ability to know/understand yoga.  So class seemed to fly by again because I was thinking about love, lust, etc.

Namaste.

Racer Back Bra Options

Racer Back Bra - Step 1

Racer Back Bra - Step 1

Yoga2010.com reader, Samantha Levy, was kind enough to take photos of how she creates a racer back bra from the simple ones that they sell at Wal-mart.

She left a comment on Day 17, explaining how to execute this, but I have recopied her comment and pasted it below.

Thank you Samantha for sharing this with us.

Enjoy!

“As far as your razor back bra goes I have a razor back bra alternative.
I use older regular sports bras with the two that meet the back of the bra. I picked up the originals at walmart about two years ago. Take a key ring, a regular old key ring like on your key chains, and thread the two straps through the ring affectively joining the two straps within the ring. The ring allows the straps to move when you’re in twisting postures and it keeps the straps from digging into the sides of your next b/c the straps are joined lower than traditional razor back bras. If you’re short of key rings you can pick up several from your local hardware store for cheap.”
