Day 93 – Substitute

Ustrasana or Camel Pose 5-12-10

Ustrasana or Camel Pose 5-12-10

Barbara, the lady that usually checks people in on Tuesdays and Thursdays and who sometimes attends class was our instructor this morning.  She told me as I went into the room that she was nervous because she wasn’t used to the 60 minute classes – and I told her not to worry that someone would surely instruct her if she goofed!

Sure enough people did.

There were also two new people today.  Which, of course, didn’t help matters.

Class went over by about 5 minutes and we ended up only doing one round of Rabbit pose.  Which really was fine.

When I was leaving the two newbies were out in the hallway talking to Barbara about Ustrasana or Camel Pose, which ironically is today’s pose.  They were saying how sick it made them and that they were concerned about that pose.

I remember when I first started doing Camel and thought that there was no way that I was doing the pose right because it made me so sick to my stomach.  But if you are a yogi, then you know that camel ends up cleansing your liver of toxins, so that’s why it makes you sick feeling.  I still can get a 1-2 second bit of sick feeling from it, but that’s about all.

Although Barbara held postures for way too long, she did give us 30-45 seconds in savasana, which I always welcome.  I really do enjoy longer savasanas, so that I can think about my pose longer.  Unfortunately, though, that’s why we ended up going over by 5 minutes – and that doesn’t include the final savasana – so if you count that then we went over by 10 minutes.  I am sure the folks that had to get to work on time were a little pissy.  I tried to relax and enjoy my yoga session and not take on the stress by putting myself in their shoes.  I don’t know if that is selfish or not.

Namaste.
