Cobra Pose or Bhujangasana 5/12/10

Cobra Pose or Bhujangasana 5/12/10

Well, sorta off to a good start.  This is the first time I have made the Monday morning class in some time.  It was easy because I totally wore myself out mowing my boyfriend’s house’s yard yesterday afternoon.  He’s been in Europe for two weeks and his lawn was not pretty!  It’s huge too, so it took me about 2.5 hours to mow – not fun – and even more not fun was the 3 ft. snake that came out of the grass!  I have seen snakes twice in my life in my city and it’s been in the past 3 years – I’m 31.  Very strange.  Scared the living daylights out of me.

Nonetheless, being out in the heat and mowing the lawn made me exhausted, so I had a nice evening watching TV and was able to relax – and take a break from all my blogging.

Anyway, the reason I said it was sorta a good start to the week is because I am leaving on Wednesday or Thursday to head to my parents’ lake house for the Fourth of July, so I will be making two more classes this week and then that’s it.

Today’s pose is Cobra Pose or Bhujangasana.  The first photo always reminds me of my thyroid disease because I can see that my thyroid is large (looks like I have an Adam’s Apple) and that is lop-sided.  But I seem to do OK in this pose and I think it’s because I have excellent strength in my lower back.  If anyone has any recommendations on this one, please let me know.

Namaste.

Day 23 – Paying The Price

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

That’s right, when I said that the “Pop, Pop, Pop” from yesterday was going to be okay, I was WRONG.

Today was such a buzz kill.  I was really excited about being more flexible yesterday and then today I couldn’t get into some of the Bikram yoga poses that I had actually started to get a little good at!  I cannot tell you how upset I was.

So today’s photo should be of a sit-up, but I never had Bill take a photo of me doing that, so we’ll skip to the Cobra pose (Bhujangasana).

Cobra requires that you have your legs flat on the ground and your hands are at about nipple height.  You are to lift your chest off the ground without using your hands.  You might notice that my hands are not strained because I am not using them.  This is a great pose for your lower back and one of the easy beginner yoga poses.

So other than the nice chat I had with Maria (instructor) after class and the good laugh I got from the girl next to me ripping ass and pretending like she didn’t know where it came from, today’s class sorta sucked.

Maria did give me some pointers on how to get the muscle back on track – like doing inversion postures – like standing on my head to get the blood flow out of there and then rush it back in.  I figure I have nothing to lose, so I will give it a-go.
