Day 124 – Gorgeous Sunrise

Janushirasana or Head to Knee pose 8-10-10

Janushirasana or Head to Knee pose 8-10-10

The yoga room is on the north side of the street and there are windows that face to the west. So I’m not entirely sure why I can always see the sunrise in the 6:20am classes but maybe it’s facing more east than I think.

There were only 3 people in class yesterday which made it a great day. And so we were doing our floor postures and I think we were on camel and I just blurted out, “sorry to interrupt but the sunrise is spectacular!”. It was well rec’d and the teacher replied by saying, “I was just about to mention that as well!”

The crazy thing about seeing the sunrise in the room is that I’ve also seen the sunset so sometimes when I’m in the yoga daze, if you will, I have to remind myself that it’s morning and not evening.

Janushirasana or Head to Knee pose 8-10-10

Today’s pose is Janushirasana or Head to Knee pose. I’m still tight on my right hand side because of the pulled hamstring from the beginning of the year but I’m enjoying the stretch.

After class, allof the students and the teacher were standing in the lobby and the teacher mentioned how fun it was to have a small class because the energy and synchronicity were on track. So of course I mention the fact that on Friday someone came into class 10 minutes late and did their own routine. And another student goes, “oh my god, that chick was so annoying! She was right in front of me and it totally threw me off!”. So the teacher said she would tell the owner because Aaron (friday’s teacher) isn’t supposed to allow that. Great I feel like a tattle tale.

Namaste.

Day 95 – Are You There, God?

Head to Knee Pose or Janushirasana 5-12-10

Head to Knee Pose or Janushirasana 5-12-10

Isn’t that the name of a movie?  I am too lazy to Google it right now to find out, but I think that it is and eventhough I haven’t watched the movie, I felt like I was asking that in Yoga class this morning – well, maybe not ASKING that but wondering things about life and what not.

Today’s instructor was Lauren and I remember vividly before the start of camel pose about something totally separate from Yoga and then Lauren saying, “alright, the next pose is camel pose.”  And I thought to myself, “seriously?  we’re already on freakin’ camel pose? how did we get here already?”  My mind had been somewhere else all morning – maybe all the things I want to do for my business but don’t have the money to do or all the things I want to get done…not really sure.  It was probably a combination of the two.

Today’s pose is Head to Knee Pose or Janushirasana.  I am getting worse at this one as my hamstrings and quads feel equally as tight, but maybe it’ll get better as the week progresses.  Namaste.

Day 33 – One More Week Of February

Friday, February 19th, 2010
Head to Knee Pose

Head to Knee Pose

I cannot believe that there is only one more week of February. I also cannot believe that this is another 5 days in a row. I haven’t done that for a couple of weeks, which is exciting. In an effort to drag out the photos as much as possible, here is another Head to Knee pose, but this one is both legs stretched out, instead of one knee bent in.

I was annoyed today in class because there was a lady that came in late and for some reason she lined up right behind me. There were only 8 people in the class, so of course, there was plenty of room, but she apparently wanted to be right behind me. I say that with confidence because I thought maybe she was just flustered and accidentally lined up with me when she first came in, but that’s not the case because when we got to the floor postures, she again lined up right behind me.

I find this annoying because of the amount of space in the room, it violates my personal space and is just bloody annoying.  Doesn’t she want to see herself in the mirror, rather than looking at my ass to see if she’s in line with her posture?

I could very well be off and not be giving her the benefit of the doubt, but I honestly couldn’t figure out why she kept doing that….unless she is just in la-la land.

So one more week is done, there is only one more week in February and then we’re into March!  Whoa.  Have a good weekend.  Namaste.

Day 32 – Tired

Head to Knee Pose

Head to Knee Pose

Today I decided to go to the 9am class because the 6:30am was just sounding too early this morning.  As I have said before, it is always interesting that the 6:30am class is all men and the 9am seems to be all women, with a few members of the opposite sex scattered in.  I do not care for the fact that the 9am class usually has a bigger turn out.  I like the smaller classes.  Actually, I heard the other day that the 6pm class had 30 people in it!  I would just die!

Well, really, if I am in the front of the room and only have the mirror to look at, then I can more easily forget about the rest of the folks in the class.  So I am trying to come to the later classes like the 9ams, 15-20 minutes early, so that I get a front row seat.

This is the look of the Head to Knee pose from the other side – you can see how one knee sticks out while the other leg is straight.

Namaste.

Day 31 – Chips

Friday, February 19th, 2010
Head to Knee Pose

Head to Knee Pose

Some folks have chips on their shoulders, you know?  Remember the guy I told you about the other day?  The one that thought that the Yoga Challenge was a competition?  He couldn’t even look at me today after class.  Ridiculous!  I was just trying to make eye contact to say, “Good Morning.”  Oh well, cannot win them all folks.

So I started this post the other day and then didn’t get a chance to get it done.

I am dragging out the photos because Bill is in Chicago, and as my prime photographer, he cannot take photos from Chicago.  So, when he is back, I will get him to do my next round of photo shoots.

This is the Head to Knee Pose is usually one of my better poses.  Recently, it’s been tough since I heard the “Pop, Pop, Pop!” of my hamstring.  My hamstring is a little tight and therefore, I cannot stretch it as far.  So bascially in this pose, my left leg is extended out, my right knee is bent, and the sole of my right foot is touching the inner knee of my left leg.  The idea is to get my hair line touch my knee, while my foot is extended out and lifted from the floor.  It lifts from the floor because your quad ends up being so flexed that it lifts it up off the floor.

I am behind by three posts, so I will go write those now.  Namaste.
