Day 8 – Crowded

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Seemed to be a lot more people in class this morning, which, as you know, I don’t care for.  But I still got a spot up close (I like to be close to the mirror because I am near sided and I cannot see myself clearly from far away with sweat dripping into my face) and being in the back reminds me of a paperweight my dad has, “If you’re not the lead dog, the view never changes.” So, quite frankly, I don’t want to be looking at other folks’ asses.  Well, and in Yoga, you get a lot more than people’s asses.

Hands to Feet Pose

Today’s photo is the Hands to Feet Pose.  As my boyfriend, Bill, said, “This one’s good because you are folded in half.”  However, I still find fault in it because I know where I can actually get to.  I USED TO touch my forehead to my toes!!  There’s a good foot to go now.  So, friends, stay tuned to see better photos of me in this pose.

As the lbs. fall off of me, I should be able to go deeper in this pose.  My belly is a big prohibiter of allowing me to go even further.
Back to class, today I finally wondered what “Namaste” meant.  I mean I have heard it over and over again and I know to say it back to the instructor, but what does it mean?  So I looked it up.  Wikipedia says that it is a common greeting or saying in Southern Asia.   Well, that’s nice, but why in the hell do you say it at the end of Yoga?  There are several explanations of this…the most valid one is that “namasate” means “I salute the God within you.”  Hmmm.
You can see the additional examples and ideas on Wikipedia.  Ta ta for now!
