Day 49 – Get Me Outta Here

Standing Separate Leg Stretching Pose

Standing Separate Leg Stretching Pose

I almost left class today because I was not feeling top notch.  I went to bed at midnight and got up at 6am, needless to say I was not refreshed and ready for yoga.  Then Bill and I got to the studio about 6:17 and class begins at 6:20, lovely.  Also there was a fair amount of people there this morning.  I think there were 13 or so, which seemed like a lot compared to my dinky morning classes.

Today’s posture is Standing Separate Leg Stretching Pose. Oh, how I want to love you again, Standing Separate Leg Stretching Pose.  But I don’t.  Ever since I pulled my hamstring, Standing Separate Leg Stretching Pose is not my friend.  I can barely grab under my feet anymore, but in the afternoon classes, I am able to do so.   I think it is just the morning classes that make this posture more difficult for me.

Today’s instructor was Conk.  I remember the first time he told me his name, I thought it was a joke.  Because in my head, I pictured Conch and eating Ceviche on a fishing boat in the Carribean.

But no, it’s Conk, from Conklin, for those of you that are as surprised as I was.  Conk is my favorite instructor, probably because of his final savasana.  He has an excellent one, that I think comes from Bikram himself.  He basically moves from your toes to the top of your head, repeating each body part three ties.  So he says, “Relax your feet, relax your feet, relax your feet.  Relax your toes, relax your toes, relax your toes…” you get the point.  At the end he says, “Relax your mind, relax your mind, relax your mind.”  As Bill said, “I thought it was a sort of cheesy savasana at first, but by the time he said, “Relax your mind, relax your mind, relax your mind.” I actually relaxed my mind!

Bill and I are headed to Arkansas, so I will be MIA for awhile.  Hope you guys have a good couple of days.  I will return on the 22nd of March.

Day 21 – Welcome February

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Crazy to think that February is already here.

Today’s photo should be of the Toe Stand Pose, however, since I cannot do it AT ALL, then I just stay in the Tree Stand Pose instead.  If you want a little entertainment, then use Google Images to see what it looks like.

Wind Removing Pose

Wind Removing Pose

Following, Tree/Toe Stand, then you go into Savasana, which is the dead body pose.  I didn’t have Bill photograph me doing that, as there isn’t too much skill involved, so I didn’t see the point.  So on we go to Pavanamuktasana, Wind Removing Pose.

So the idea of this one is that you interlace your fingers and then pull your knee towards your armpit.  I believe you eventually get your knee on the ground?  Not sure.  At the same time, you try to get the back of your neck on the floor.  I used to be able to get the back of my neck on the floor, but not any more.  But I will get there again.  When the instructors come by and push on your leg, that is always helpful.

Today’s instructor was Steve, with the sexy voice.  Never a problem to listen to him.  He is also a devote attendee to yoga class, so I am more interested in learning/listening to someone that puts in the time that I do.  When you don’t see the other instructors in class or talk about going to class or talk about doing the postures, it is a little more believable, if that makes sense.

Overall, it was a good class today!  I enjoyed it.  90 minutes tomorrow.  Gotta get a goodnight’s sleep tonight.

Day 10 – Happy

Friday, January 15th, 2010

On Mondays and Wednesdays, I go to a personal trainer after I do yoga.  So I am not available until 9am to write this, but then I usually go to CVS and do some coupon deals (if you want a great couponing website for CVS, check out

However, today I am still in my wet yoga clothes cooling off before I get in the shower and knocking this post out too…I have  a lot of writing to do today, and I’d prefer to be done with it before 6pm, so I can have a nice evening.  What are you doing tonight?

Awkward Pose

Awkward Pose

Today’s teacher was Aaron. He has been teaching at the yoga studio for as long as I can remember.  He only teaches one time a week, and that is quite evident.  He says many things that contradict the other teachers.

It is funny because he used to really annoy me, and I am not sure if he will later on this year, but today I sort of found him refreshing.  He moves at a rapid pace through the postures, leaving little to no time in savasana.

Today’s pose is a little weird because the room my boyfriend was taking pictures of me in is a little small and doesn’t allow for him to get back and take a complete shot.

Anyway, as I stated yesterday, I am having problems with my knees, so this is not one of my best advanced yoga poses.  But I think I will be able to advance soon.  My knee is always more messed up after my personal training session (do you think that should tell me something?), so I think by Monday it will feel a lot better.  I need to ice it today.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, whoever you are.
