Standing Separate Leg Stretching Pose

Standing Separate Leg Stretching Pose

It’s late on Saturday night, but I have been meaning to post about yesterday’s class and simply haven’t gotten around to it.  Bill wanted to go to class again with me, so we went to the 5:45pm class that is offered only on Fridays…usually it is a 6:30pm class.

Although I want to support Bill and his schedule (he is a teacher and likes to be at work at 7am and doesn’t get off until about 4pm, so he cannot go to morning classes with me), I just don’t think I can handle the huge classes.  I think there were over 40 people in the class.

I have a big problem with noises and smells and when you add more people the more noises and smells there are.  Now I understand that the point of yoga is to calm down and not pay attention to the things going on in the room…but I haven’t gotten there yet!

Today’s pose is the final one of the Bikram yoga postures’ half moon series.  This one makes me depressed looking at it, because if you’ve been reading the blog for some time, then you will remember the post I did about the “Pop, pop, pop“.  That’s what happened to my hamstring in this pose and mostly because I was doing what I am doing in these photos!  I wasn’t flexing my quads and was hyper-extending my knees.  But I am better about it in class than I am in the photos, promise.  (BTW, please ignore the awesome bologna spot appearing under my left arm in this posture when I did it on 2/22.  That’s hot.)

So, I have not advanced very far in this posture because of the injury to my hamstring which totally sucks.  I really like this posture too, and have enjoyed advancing in it, but now I find myself struggling to find the patience that I don’t have when I want advancement.  I do believe everything happens in the time and manner it is supposed to, so maybe the universe gave me this injury because I needed a lesson in patience!

Namaste.
