This morning was one of those very full 6:20 am classes. I’m not a fan.

So there wasn’t really a spot in the front of the room – guess I’ll have to get there at 6am to grab those.

So I chose the second layer back behind a guy I’ve seen in my last three classes. He comes with his grandfather or someone of that age compared to him. This guy is always in the front row so I never pay much attention because I’m usually parallel with him.

Omg (love that acronym btw), he was so jerky in his postures. Every single one. There was no flow and he always got out of postures early. In fact, I’d say he never really got in them. I think doing this every few postures is acceptable and understandable IF you’re off that day, had too much to drink the night before or aren’t feeling well. But beyond that I find it rude and inconsiderate to your fellow classmates. It interrupts the synchronicity of the room – not to mention drives me crazy!

So needless to say class wasn’t all that relaxing. And for some reason I’m really tired even though I got 7.5 hours of sleep.

Maria was gone today so Julia subbed for her I like Julie because she plays music during the class and part of that music is usually some sort of windpipe that ends up reminding me of New Mexico which is always a welcomed memory as I love it so there.

Today’s Bikram Yoga posture is the final part of the wind removal series – Wind Removing Pose or Pavanamuktasana – when I was doing it today I was thinking about how I had told you guys that my goal was to get my neck flat on the ground and how I can’t wait to tell you when I do.

I was watching a recorded version of Oprah yesterday, but I think it was the one that aired yesterday about Ali MacGraw – and when she walked on the stage, her outfit reminded me immediately of New Mexico and then of course, she mentioned that she lives in the mountains beyond Santa Fe – which just made me melt.  Man, waking up to the New Mexico sun every morning and doing yoga – there’s a treat.  Oh, yeah, that’s what she said that she does Yoga every morning and if she doesn’t then by 10am, she is reminded that she hasn’t.  I can totally relate to that.  She told Oprah that it balances her for the rest of the day.  Loved that!

I’m headed to Mayo next Monday and see my doc up there exactly one week from today. I’m a little nervous about the blood results as I haven’t felt as great as I did when I first came off the meds (felt like I was in high school again when I first came off of them) so I am wondering if anything is going on just ever so slightly. The reason I’m excited to go is for him to look at my knees to see if he can figure out what’s wrong with them. They weren’t happy in class this morning, that’s for sure.

Today’s teacher was Lisa. She seed more cynical than normal today – think she had a cold.

Today’s Bikram yoga pose is Wind Removing Pose or Pavanamuktasana and the new challenge I have for myself in this pose is that I’m trying to get the back of my neck flat on the ground. I remember when I did it in my early twenties and was in utter shock as I never thought it was possible to do and thought the teacher at the time (Angela – Bikram trained and an experienced yogi) was just talking gibberish. Of course, now I know it’s possible but that it seems impossible.

I’m playing in an Alumni Field Hockey game on Friday afternoon and am sorta dreading it. It’s funny because I thought by doing yoga all year long I’d be ready to play in it (mentally and physically), but since I haven’t accomplished what I set out to do in my physical body I find my mental one totally discouraged. If I score, I’ll forgive myself.  Dream on, little girl, dream on.

That’s what today’s class pretty much consisted of.  There is a lady in one of my classes that has fake boobs – you can just tell – and today she was directly behind me and of course, she wears a little tank top (where her boobs barely fit in it) and her nipples are hard the entire class.

I have found that people with fake boobs seem to have hard nipples all the time or damn near all the time – or maybe because they are usually so proud of their boobs, they wear shirts that make them cold and therefore their nipples are hard all the time.  I am not realy sure why this is and would be curious if other people have encountered this.

I tend to cover my hard nipples up the second I know they are hard or I just don’t wear clothing to show them off.  My boyfriend in high school used to say, “your headlights are on” – and I never knew what it meant – his friends would say it to me too – and literally, one day went to check the headlights on my Jeep to see if they were on.  And when I noticed that they weren’t , I finally asked him what he was talking about.  I suppose the fact that I didn’t ask the first time, makes me sound like I am an idiot, but I assure you I was not – and he told me that it meant that my nipples were hard.  I never ever again wanted my nipples to be hard through a shirt – I was so humilated and embarassed that they were staring at my tits.  Of course, I understand that’s what boys do at that age (and ages older), but it still hurt my feelings and to this day I have a real problem with my nipples being hard.

In fact, a few weeks ago, Bill and I went through the drive-thru at a steakburger restaurant and I was wearing a sweatshirt and it was 90+ degrees outside.  I had said something to the drive-thru cashier and she goes, “Girl, I have no idea how you are wearing that sweatshirt in this heat.”  and she seemed like the sort of person I could say anything to, and I replied, “My nipples are hard and I don’t want to be walking around with my nipples hard”  and she replied, “Oh yay, Girl, I gotcha – I hate that too!”

So today’s pose is the two legs together – Wind Removing Pose or Pavanamuktasana.  Like I said yesterday, I am not terribly excited about this pose because I don’t feel like I am advancing much in it, but I will keep trying and the more classes I go to that are 90 minutes- where we do this posture twice will help, I think.

I went to yoga last Wednesday, but I am posting this on Monday.  Not so good.  I am back-dating it though to look like I posted it on Wednesday. 

I should be posting the day I go to Yoga, but I didn’t and now don’t know what on Earth to write about because I barely remember that day!

So I will just talk about today’s pose a bit.  Today’s pose is Wind Removing Pose or Pavanamuktasana.  I feel like I am getting deeper into my hip flexers with this pose, but it certainly doesn’t look like it.  I remember when I could get my neck flat on the floor.  I really sometimes wonder if there is something more the matter with me as I don’t understand why it is taking me so long this time around to accomplish these things.  Patience, patience.

I went to the 9am class today because I woke up exhausted.  And didn’t want to be there at all, and as I am standing there in class, I told myself that I already wrote on my blog about how I would try to make it to 5 days/ week of yoga.  Ugh.  But, I tell you what, my blog holds me accountable.  Much like an appointment with a personal trainer, but at least I can switch the times around a bit.

Today Julia was the instructor.  Talk about fit.  She is the one that plays music during class.  God bless her.  She also likes to hold the warrior pose before you go into Bikram triangle which drives me sorta crazy.  Of course, it only drives me crazy because I am not in shape to do it.  It amazes me that I have been doing hot yoga consistently for 3 months and still not in shape!!

I literally was exhausted in class today.  After the standing head to knee pose and the standing bow, I wasn’t sure if I would make it through the rest of class.  I wonder if it is because it is around 80 degrees today, so the room felt hot and humid.  I really don’t know, but it was discouraging – makes you wonder what you did for the last three months of class.  Namaste.

I wasn’t feeling smokin’ hot this morning in class.  Gas again.  Goddamn gas.  It really has to do with what I ate – I know – SHOCKER.  I take a class on Tuesday nights, so I ended up having some pasta and breadsticks that they had to eat.  Big mistake.  Bad idea.

So my genius ass got out of order on the poses again.  I should have done the wind removing pose (pavanamuktasana) after the tree pose.  Whoops.

So as we go backwards, here’s me in the wind removing pose – there’s really no reason to show the left leg, as it looks pretty similar, i.e. not pretty.

Not sure on the progress on this one.  My leg that is extended should have a flexed foot – foot flexed up – not pointing out as it is.  I do feel like my knee is getting closer to my shoulder.  The back of my neck, though, is not touching the floor – but I know it can!  I have gotten that far before.

I’m tired.  It’s late.  I’ve gotta get up at 6am.  Namaste.

I was in this position (Standing Separate Leg Stretching Pose) today and I hear a “Pop, Pop, Pop”.  It totally freaked me out.  And no, it was not just my joints popping.  It was a MUSCLE.  That has never ever happened to me.  Scared the shit out of me.

So I am not sure what I did, but I took it easy on that muscle for the rest of class.  The pop, pop, pop came from the area that attaches your leg to your bum. 

It is still sore and I really hope it is okay.

I think one of the reasons that it popped is because I ended up going to the 9:00am class today, as I just couldn’t do it at 6:30am this morning.  I didn’t have the energy.  When I feel like I am going to be burning out my adrenal glands, I need to back off, as I fear reoccurance with my thyroid disease…

It is funny about the 9am class is that it is mostly female, whereas the 6:30am is mostly male.  I suppose more women are home during the day and can make a 9am class. 

I did enjoy class at this later time because I felt more flexible and skinnier.  Go figure.  That could have to do with the fact that last week I was on the rag and this week, I am not, so I don’t have that overwhelming bloating.  But, feeling more flexible could have been the reason why I had the pop-pop-pop thing happen.

Today’s photo is another step in the Wind Removing Pose of the Bikram yoga postures. 

The idea on this one is to have the back of my neck flat to the ground and my heels should be on my bum!  I’ve got a ways to go with this one.

Tomorrow is Wednesday – cannot believe the week is almost half over and am looking forward to a shorter class!

Day 21 – Welcome February

Crazy to think that February is already here.

Today’s photo should be of the Toe Stand Pose, however, since I cannot do it AT ALL, then I just stay in the Tree Stand Pose instead.  If you want a little entertainment, then use Google Images to see what it looks like.

Following, Tree/Toe Stand, then you go into Savasana, which is the dead body pose.  I didn’t have Bill photograph me doing that, as there isn’t too much skill involved, so I didn’t see the point.  So on we go to Pavanamuktasana, Wind Removing Pose.

So the idea of this one is that you interlace your fingers and then pull your knee towards your armpit.  I believe you eventually get your knee on the ground?  Not sure.  At the same time, you try to get the back of your neck on the floor.  I used to be able to get the back of my neck on the floor, but not any more.  But I will get there again.  When the instructors come by and push on your leg, that is always helpful.

Today’s instructor was Steve, with the sexy voice.  Never a problem to listen to him.  He is also a devote attendee to yoga class, so I am more interested in learning/listening to someone that puts in the time that I do.  When you don’t see the other instructors in class or talk about going to class or talk about doing the postures, it is a little more believable, if that makes sense.

Overall, it was a good class today!  I enjoyed it.  90 minutes tomorrow.  Gotta get a goodnight’s sleep tonight.
